Maine Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner has been caught doing what Democrats do best when they think nobody important is watching — mocking a wounded American soldier who took enemy fire and earned a Purple Heart. The 41-year-old progressive darling, endorsed by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, apparently spent his free time on Reddit laughing at a man who nearly died fighting the Taliban.
Support the troops, right? Unless they're bleeding out in Afghanistan — then it's comedy hour.
The resurfaced Reddit posts, dating back to June 2019 and March 2017, show Platner commenting on a 2012 video of Pfc. Ted Daniels engaged in a brutal Taliban firefight. Daniels took fire, kept fighting, and earned a Purple Heart for his service. Platner's response? "Dumb motherfucker didn't deserve to live." He also cracked that it was "poor marksmanship on the Taliban's part" — essentially rooting for the enemy.
Let that sink in. A man running for the United States Senate sided with the Taliban over an American soldier.
Platner didn't stop there. He wrote that the video "never gets old" and mocked Daniels' physical condition, sneering that "at least his stupidity and fat ass wheezing are available" for entertainment. These weren't private thoughts scribbled in a journal. These were public posts on Reddit, sitting there for years while Platner apparently figured nobody would bother to look.
Adam Schwarze, a former Navy SEAL and Marine veteran now running as a Republican Senate candidate in Minnesota, didn't mince words about Platner's comments. "We don't make jokes about our brothers and sisters dying," Schwarze said. "We don't post about our brothers getting wounded in action." He added, with more grace than Platner deserves, "I feel bad for him. I think he should get some help."
That's the difference between someone who actually served and someone who thinks military sacrifice is a punchline.
Platner is running in the Maine Senate race, hoping to unseat incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins. He jumped in after two-term Democrat Governor Janet Mills ended her own campaign. And apparently the progressive lane cleared just enough for a guy who openly wished death on American soldiers to waltz right through a June primary with endorsements from the biggest names in the Democrat Party.
Bernie Sanders endorsed this man. Elizabeth Warren endorsed this man. Are they going to pull those endorsements now? Don't hold your breath. Democrats have a long, proud tradition of saying they support the military while treating actual service members like garbage behind closed doors.
This is who they are. They'll slap a "Support Our Troops" bumper sticker on the campaign bus and then laugh at a soldier bleeding out in a firefight when they think the cameras are off. Graham Platner just got caught saying the quiet part out loud — and Maine voters deserve to know exactly what kind of man wants to represent them in Washington.
