President Trump just dropped his "Complete and Total Endorsement" on Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican Senate primary against incumbent John Cornyn, and somewhere in Washington, every RINO with a committee chairmanship just felt a chill run down their spine.
The establishment tried to impeach this man. They threw everything they had at him. He survived. And now he's got Trump's backing to take the Senate seat from a guy who's been in public office for 42 years. You cannot make this stuff up.
Trump posted the endorsement on Truth Social on May 19, calling Paxton "the Highly Respected Attorney General of Texas" and "an America First Patriot." He didn't mince words about knowing what Paxton is made of, either. "I know Ken well, have seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels," Trump wrote. Tested, indeed. The Texas establishment's impeachment circus was supposed to end Paxton's career. Instead, it was just the warm-up act.
To his credit, Trump acknowledged Cornyn directly. "John Cornyn is a good man, and I worked well with him," he wrote. But being a "good man" and being an America First fighter are two very different things, and everybody paying attention knows which one Trump values more.
Paxton responded exactly how you'd expect. "I am incredibly honored to have President Trump's COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT," he said. Capital letters and all. The 63-year-old AG has been spoiling for this fight.
And what a fight it is. Cornyn is gunning for a 5th term — the first in Texas history, according to Breitbart News. Five terms. That's not public service, that's a career plan. Paxton laid it out beautifully on Breitbart News Saturday with host Matthew Boyle: "He has actually been in office, in public office, since I was in college." Then came the kill shot: "Can you name, let's give them the whole 42 years, one good accomplishment?"
Silence.
Paxton hammered Cornyn's record on the issues that actually matter to Texas voters. The border wall. Amnesty. Gun legislation. Budget deficits. "He is a guy that has sided with Joe Biden many times," Paxton said. When your Republican primary opponent's biggest accomplishments involve crossing the aisle to help Democrats, you've got a problem.
The runoff is set for May 26 — just days away. The winner faces Democrat nominee James Talarico in November, and Paxton already has Talarico's number. "His views are so radical, and he may come off as this Christian pastor," Paxton warned, noting Talarico's $2,500 campaign donation to the Austin Justice Coalition. For context, that's an organization out of Austin — because of course it's Austin.
The numbers tell the rest of the story. Trump pulled 6.4 million votes in Texas in 2024. An internal poll showed 87 percent support for the SAVE America Act. This is Trump country, and Cornyn's brand of go-along-to-get-along Republicanism has an expiration date that's about to hit.
Paxton also went after Talarico's support for packing the Supreme Court from 9 justices to 21, abolishing ICE, and resettling Afghan refugees in places like Los Angeles. The general election will be a layup if Paxton gets past the runoff.
This endorsement sends a message to every Republican senator who thinks they can vote for gun control, flirt with amnesty, and rubber-stamp Democrat priorities while keeping their seat. The RINO hunt isn't over. It's just getting to the good part.
