The first assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life happened in Butler, Pennsylvania. Now he is going back there to hold an outdoor gathering.
The Trump team said in a news release this week that the GOP candidate would be going back to Butler.
“President Trump will hold a gathering in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the same ground where he was less than three months ago a quarter of an inch from dying,” the campaign said.
During the Butler Farm Show on October 5, he is going to give a speech.
To his friends and fans in Mint Hill, North Carolina, this week, Trump told them that he would be back to “finish our speech.”
“You know that there have been two attempts on my life that we know of…” Trump said, “The first case was in Butler, Pennsylvania, which is a great place, and we’re going back there. We need to finish our speech,” they said.
Trump’s team said that he would also honor the people who died in the attempted assassination at the gathering. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire and killed 50-year-old fireman Corey Comperatore, “who sacrificed his life to hide his wife and children” from the barrage of bullets. Crooks was killed by Secret Service counter-snipers.
In addition, Trump will honor David Dutch and James Copenhaver, the other two Americans who were hurt in the case.
The campaign said, “He will thank law officers and first responders from the bottom of his heart, as well as the whole community for their love and support since the attack.”
The Trump team said that his going back to the place is a “tribute to the American spirit.”
“In the United States, we don’t let monsters like that evil killer have the last word.” In a statement, the campaign said, “Every time our country is attacked or goes through hard times, we come together, keep going, and win. When terrorists tore down our buildings, we built new ones that were even bigger. We work together to get better after a fire, storm, or other natural disaster hits our towns.”
“And when a shooter tried to attack our democracy and tried to put an end to this movement, President Trump will go back to the site with tens of thousands of happy Americans. They will celebrate our vision for America’s future that brings everyone together in a way that the world has never seen before.”
Two people have tried to kill the former president in the last nine weeks, once at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, and again in Butler, Pennsylvania. His team said that he is “more motivated than ever.”
