When questioned about Mike Pence’s declaration that he would not be backing him, Trump said, “I couldn’t care less.”
“Patriots are needed.” In our nation, we need strong individuals. “Our nation is swiftly and drastically deteriorating,” declared Trump, who was participating in the GOP primaries in Florida. “This nation needs strong individuals. Weak people are not what we need.
Pence said on Friday that he could not “in good faith” back his running mate for a second term, citing a host of ideological disagreements and charges against the previous GOP president with reference to January 6, 2021.
Pence said, “The Republican movement is approaching a turning point.” “I plan to continue advocating for the core conservative values that our movement has always upheld.”
As the Republican nominee for 2024, Trump will face off against incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden in November.
Pence was Trump’s steadfastly loyal vice president during their time in the White House. But Pence became one of the president’s most outspoken critics during his 2024 GOP primary campaign, which ended in October owing to his lack of popularity and failure to win over the Republican base.
Since January 6, 2021, Pence has been vociferous, saying that Trump “did not have the right to reject the results of the 2020 election.” This has been going on for over two years.
Pence stated at the start of his campaign that he was ineligible due to what he believed to be Trump’s actions on January 6.
Still, prior comments from Trump—deleted by the former Twitter censors who said he was “inciting violence”—said he urged his followers and admirers to respect the law and to stay calm. This caused confusion since Pence appears to be repeating talking points and vocabulary that Trump’s left-wing critics are also using.
A video dedicated to the crowd that forcefully stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday was among the tweets that Twitter blocked from public access, according to a report from the left-leaning media organization NPR in 2021. In the video, Trump declared his affection for those fans while telling them to return home.
Pence appears to be conflating these historical occurrences in a more obstinate manner; some have accused the former vice president of being envious because his campaign did not have nearly as much support as Trump’s has.
Still, Pence said in November that he would not be backing Biden either. “Husband, Father, Grandfather, Christian, Conservative, Republican—In That Order” is how Pence describes himself on Twitter’s X account.
