Barack Obama’s top FBI lawyer just came clean about the investigation into the Trump campaign and James Comey is doomed.

Look, after 911 we gave our law enforcement community unprecedented powers to keep us safe.

Many have wondered if our government abused the system to target individuals and now we know that ‘mistakes’ were made.

This is the first leak admitting this, and more will come before because they want to soften the blows by using the media to slowly admit what they did. Before Barr’s investigation is complete.

It won’t work – if Comey and the gang did it they will pay, it is that simple. From The Washington Examiner:

Former FBI General Counsel James Baker said on Monday he expects the Justice Department inspector general to find “mistakes” committed by the bureau in its handling of the Trump-Russia investigation.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz is examining the Justice Department’s and FBI’s compliance with legal requirements as well as policies and procedures in applications filed with the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court related to onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Baker, who admitted last week the inspector general makes him “nervous,” said the government watchdog will probably find some errors.

“The inspector general is looking at everything we did,” Baker said on CNN. “If the IG usually finds mistakes that we made, so I expect him to find mistakes this time.”

Baker said last week at an event in Washington, D.C., that he took a leading role in overseeing the FISA warrant applications to obtain the authority to spy on Page. Baker said on Monday he does not believe there was any intent from the people he worked with to do “anything wrong or illegal,” including politically motivated spying.

Baker was appointed FBI general counsel in January 2014 and reassigned by FBI Director Christopher Wray in December 2017. Last year, it was reported that Baker was resigning, and since has written for Lawfare and joined the R Street Institute.

From CNN:

The top federal prosecutor in Connecticut is assisting Attorney General Bill Barr in his review of the genesis of the 2016 Russia investigation, according to a source familiar with the review.

US attorney John Durham has been tapped to help Barr, but is not acting as a special counsel like Robert Mueller, the source said, and will be looking at whether intelligence collection activities by the US government prior to election day were lawful.

Durham is a Trump appointee who has investigated numerous public corruption cases under Republican and Democratic administrations. He was appointed by then-Attorney General Janet Reno to investigate corruption surrounding the use of FBI informants in Boston in the late 1990s, and later called on to investigate the CIA’s destruction of videotapes of detainee interrogations in 2008.

And while Barr has said publicly that he’s not launching a full blown investigation into the FBI’s handling of the matter, Durham’s role — first reported by The New York Times — does provide one of the clearest signals to date of the seriousness of an inquiry President Donald Trump had called for repeatedly.

Barr’s concerns about surveillance of the Trump campaign were first revealed during testimony before the House Appropriations Committee last month when he suggested, controversially, that Trump’s campaign was spied on, but he has declined to elaborate on the precise contours of the review or the basis of concern.

The Justice Department declined to comment.
