Mexico Makes Deal with Trump, But POTUS Issues Warning

The migrant crisis at the border has been raging for months. President Trump has taken many steps to end this nightmare. His latest sealed a deal with Mexico, requiring the country to pitch in and help. Already we are seeing results from this deal. But President Trump recent warned Mexico to keep up their end of the bargain, or else.

The border crisis began last fall, when caravans of migrants marched their way from South America to our front porch. “Immigration activists” (a.k.a.: Democrats) were organizing these groups, putting them on buses, and telling them what to say at our border. It has become a full-blown crisis—much like the refugee crisis that nearly destroyed Europe.

What was truly shocking was how little Mexico helped. They sat back and watched wave after wave of thousands march through their country on the way to the United States. They rarely stopped them or made them turn around. In some cases, they helped them move quickly through their country. After all, why stop them if they’re coming here, right?

President Trump has done everything within his authority to end this crisis. He’s sent National Guard troops to assist Border and Customs. He’s declared a national emergency to provide funding for the wall. And he’s urged Congress to assist him by fixing our broken immigration laws. Clearly, Congress has no desire to fix this crisis—they seem to care more about migrants than they do American citizens.

So, it fell to Mexico to pitch in and help. President Trump threatened steep tariffs on Mexican goods, if they did not agree to end the crisis. Critics scoffed at the move, but once again, Trump was successful.

In return for the U.S. agreeing not to slap their goods with a 5% tariff, Mexico pledged to send 6,000 National Guard troops to its southern border with Guatemala, allow more U.S. asylum seekers to stay in their country, and better combat human and drug trafficking. [Source: Daily Caller]

As the link between South America and the United States, Mexico can do a great deal to stop the caravans. Their border with Guatemala is significantly small than our Southern border; it’s not unthinkable that they could protect it from more migrants.

It looks like Mexico is eager to help fix the border crisis—and avoid those tariffs. But it’s a waiting game to see if they will follow through to the end. President Trump is watching them closely. And he had strong words for if they back out of the deal.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned of implementing a “phase two” if the immigration deal with Mexico does not yield satisfactory results…

“If Mexico does a great job, then you’re not going to have very many people coming up. If they don’t, then we have phase two. Phase two is very tough, but I think they’re going to do a good job,” he said.

What could “phase two” mean? We don’t know for sure. But I sure bet Mexico does. The U.S. and Mexico reached a deal to confront the crisis. Like with most deals, there is probably a clause that describes the consequences if one party backs out. That “phase two” is most likely outlined in the deal.

It could mean quick and immediately tariffs on Mexican goods. It could also mean closing the U.S. border completely. It might even mean an end to the new trade deal between U.S., Mexico, and Canada—something Mexico definitely cannot afford.

What this phase two is, you better believe Trump is serious about it. He made his 2016 campaign about protecting our Southern border. He has promised to put Americans first by ending rampant illegal immigration. And he is doing everything he can to reform our immigration system and end the loopholes that attract criminal aliens.

If Mexico backs out of this new deal, then I honestly don’t think it will go well for them.
