For months, the U.S. border has been under siege, as thousands of migrants seek to enter the country. Our asylum system is overwhelmed at the sheer number of people trying to get in. It has led to be full blown crisis that even the left-wing media acknowledges. Now, Trump is making moves to send asylum seekers back to where they came from.
The border crisis started, thanks to our broken asylum system. People from outside the country can demand entrance into America–receiving a ton of benefits–by simply claiming they are victims. The U.S. government lets them in while ruling on their case, giving them housing, food, and even jobs.
This system was blown wide open when caravans of thousands came rushing to our door. We were quickly overrun by an obvious attempt to get around our immigration laws. Clearly, people who understood our asylum system were organizing these caravans and telling the migrants what to say.
Those who are denied asylum are just trying to sneak over, leading to thousands of arrests. The situation is beyond out of control. Even left-wing newspapers like the New York Times admit the crisis has reached a breaking point.
President Trump has had enough. He is putting forward sweeping changes to our asylum system in order to prevent more caravans and migrants from attempting to enter the country.
President Trump called Monday night for a sweeping overhaul to an asylum system he has long said is rife with fraud — including a new fee to process asylum applicants, and the capacity to rapidly adjudicate applicants’ claims while also barring them from working in the U.S. in the meantime.
In a presidential memorandum, Trump specifically told Attorney General William Barr and acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan that the move was necessary to address a “crisis” at the border…
Arrests along the southern border have skyrocketed in recent months, with border agents making more than 100,000 arrests or denials of entry in March, a 12-year high. Immigration courts that process asylum claims currently have a backlog of more than 800,000 cases, and asylum applicants are increasingly staying in the U.S. even after their claims for asylum have been denied. It’s hard not to think this was all orchestrated by the left, in an attempt to overwhelm our system and get more illegals into the country. We know that immigration activists in South America organized these caravans and told people what to say.
How much do you want to bet these activists were ordered to do this, by Democrats? Who else would stand to benefit from this crisis?
Although the majority of the asylum claims are denied, it takes months or years to process. In the meantime, asylum seekers are granted access to the U.S. How many do you think actually leave, when they are denied asylum status? Very few, we know that. Asylum claims are just another way for migrants to get into the U.S.–and never leave.
Trump is giving his deputies 90 days to set new regulations, the biggest change would be to require claims to be processed in just 180 days. New asylum fees would reduce the number of people who seek asylum.
The president will also bar anyone who has entered or tried to enter the U.S. illegally from being able to work.
These changes will have a dramatic impact on the ongoing crisis. Fewer people will try to seek asylum. And those that do will get their cases processed faster. Those denied will be removed from the country immediately.
It is a sensible change to address a massive crisis, which means the Democrats will oppose it tooth and nail. Rest assure, Democrats will rant and panic over these changes, calling it the end of the world. You better believe they will try to sue the Trump administration to prevent them from making changes that will help the country and protect Americans.
Because, after all, Democrats aren’t interested in the well-being of Americans, but of illegal immigrants.
