You’ve probably heard a lot about the filibuster, if you follow news coming out of the Senate. This rule is the only thing that can prevent the Democrats from ramming a radical agenda through. It requires 60 votes to end debate on a bill in order to vote on its passage. If the Senate cannot reach that kind of consensus, it is unlikely a controversial or popular bill will be passed.
With a 50-50 split in the Senate, Democrats do not have enough votes to reach that 60-vote threshold for most of their toxic, radical bills. But with Harris being able to break ties, they have kind of a slim, pseudo-majority. So, Chuck Schumer and other power-hungry leftists are hellbent on killing the filibuster, so they can ram as many bad laws down our throats.
Only two Democrats refused to vote to kill the filibuster. One of them is West Virginia’s Joe Manchin. The Democrat comes from a very red state and cannot embrace the extreme agenda of Joe Biden and others. But he has recently appeared to crack on his support for the filibuster.
But now, he is setting the record straight.
Sen. Joe Manchin in an op-ed said that he will not vote to nix or weaken the filibuster.
“The filibuster is a critical tool to protecting that input and our democratic form of government. That is why I have said it before and will say it again to remove any shred of doubt: There is no circumstance in which I will vote to eliminate or weaken the filibuster. The time has come to end these political games, and to usher a new era of bipartisanship where we find common ground on the major policy debates facing our nation,” Manchin wrote. It’s refreshing to hear a Democrat wants to embrace cooperation and bipartisanship. I mean, it will never happen, but at least it’s nice to hear.
Manchin might want to work with Republicans to pass meaningful legislation. But few other Democrats do.
Joe Biden promised to be bipartisan and “unite” the country after the Trump administration. Instead, he has gone out of his way to alienate, bully, and demonize anyone right of center.
He even goes after members of his own party that are opposing his terrible agenda.
The filibuster is supposed to force both parties to cooperate, compromise, and come up with solutions that everyone agrees to. So, naturally, Democrats want it gone. They’ve made it very clear they are in no way interested in negotiating with Republicans. They have 2 years to jam their globalist-appeasing agenda through, before the 2022 Midterms.
Only a small window of time to turn the free United States into a socialist nightmare. They are not going to waste that time “working” with people they’d like to see dead in the streets.
In the end, Manchin’s support for the filibuster will only act as a barrier to the left’s insanity, not a stepping stone to cooperation.
But if that’s all we can get, we’ll take it.
