Kamala Harris Puts Mass Amnesty In The Spotlight

Kamala Harris Puts Mass Amnesty In The Spotlight

Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing a plan for mass amnesty that would give the 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. a quick path to becoming citizens.

Harris seemed to like the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 in an exclusive sit-down interview on Fox News Channel’s Special Report this week. This is a plan to give green cards to almost all illegal immigrants in the U.S.

“Almost as soon as I took the oath of office, the first bill I worked on was one to fix our immigration system… From the first day, we knew… Harris said of the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, It is important to us as a country and to the American people.”

The bill, which President Joe Biden sent to Congress as soon as he took office on January 20, 2021, would give so-called “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” status to most of the millions of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. This would let them work in the U.S., get Social Security cards, and travel outside the U.S. and still be able to come back.

If they stay in the country illegally for five years as a Lawful Prospective Immigrant, they can get a green card. With a green card, these illegal immigrants would only have to wait three years before they could apply to become naturalized Americans. This is shorter than the current federal immigration law.

The mass amnesty plan says that illegal immigrants could become citizens of the United States in less than ten years and then be able to vote, as long as they meet other requirements.

On the other hand, illegal alien farmworkers, people with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and people in the U.S. on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) would be given green cards right away. After only three years, these three groups of immigrants could apply to become legal citizens of the United States.
