Last week we discussed some of the odd things Joe Biden said on the campaign trail. Looks like he hasn’t stopped. At recent stops in Iowa, he struggled to answer basic questions from voters. While trying to downplay Trump’s successes, he said some truly bizarre things. Then, it got even weirder.
It wasn’t that long ago when people considered Joe Biden a shoo-in for the Democratic nomination. As a former vice president, he seemed the best fit to go up against Donald Trump. Add to that the fact he is considered the most “moderate” in a field comprised of radical, left-wing socialists. You’d think Democrats would have already christened him the nominee by now.
Not so fast. Recent polls show Bernie Sanders taking a big lead over Biden and Elizabeth Warren. Seems like Biden’s past role as VP isn’t enough to win over voters. Nor, does his close association with former President Barack Obama (who hasn’t given his endorsement, ouch).
Perhaps the concerns over Biden’s Ukraine dealings (and his son’s) are turning off primary voters. Or perhaps folks in Iowa and other states have gotten a good, long look at the candidate and don’t like what they see.
Really? I’m shocked!
Last week, Biden had a few bad showings during town hall events. He struggled to make sense while discussing important matters. More recently, he made odd claims about making Michelle Obama his running mate and appointing Barack to the Supreme Court.
Now, things have gotten worse. Voters posed a few basic questions to the man. He didn’t seem prepared or even knowledgeable about the facts.
“There’s only one way you can win this,” the voter said to Biden. “When you’re on the stage with Donald Trump, you’re going to say, ‘Donald, you have done some good things, I’m going to take what’s good that you did, I’m going to add to it, and I’m going to do it with dignity.’”
“The good things: the unemployment is good now,” the voter responded.
“Yeah, unemployment is good but wages are down,” Biden falsely claimed as wages have dramatically increased under the Trump administration. [Source: Daily Wire]
“Wages are down” is one of the lies spread by candidates like Kamala Harris, who by the way is no longer running. We know that wages dramatically increased, especially for working-class Americans.
On Tuesday, Biden said in regards to who he will pick as he vice president running mate, assuming that he wins the party’s nomination, that “it has to be demonstrated that whoever I pick is two things.”
“One, is capable of being president, because I’m an old guy,” Biden said as the crowd laughed. “No, I’m serious. Look, thank God I’m in great health, I work out, no I’m serious, you know I work out every morning. I’m in good shape.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Uh, what? Sometimes Biden’s jokes are hard to separate from his serious comments. Was he joking when he said, “I’m an old guy”? He did follow it up with “no, I’m serious.” Is he admitting that, because he’s in his 70s, he might not live through his term? Is he suggesting that his running mate will have to take his place—after he passes?
That’s not a great thing to say, when you’re trying to win over voters, Joe.
Even though he said he was in “great health,” he couldn’t remember basic dates.
On Saturday, Biden struggled to remember when the last time was that he was elected, saying it was “January of 2012, actually 2013, no wait a minute, we got elected in 2012, 2010 or 13.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Yikes. Maybe we’re seeing just why he’s slipping in the polls. Biden makes plenty of boasts, but the guy just doesn’t seem mentally fit for a job as strenuous as being president. He thinks he can go toe-to-toe with someone like Trump, but he can’t remember when he was last elected (it was November 2012).
Again and again, we’re seeing troubling gaffes and mistakes made by the former vice president. Perhaps he should just admit, he shouldn’t be running.
