Speaking ahead of the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, President Donald Trump delivered a powerful testimony, crediting God with saving him from the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July.
Reflecting on that harrowing moment, Trump recalled how a split-second movement—turning his head to look at an immigration chart—saved his life.
“It was almost as though a deer bolted. You know, they say the only way you miss when you’re a good shot is if it bolts; I bolted,” Trump said. “I turned to the right to look at the chart, and I said, ‘Wow. What was that? What was that?’ So, you never know, but God did that. I mean, it had to be.”
A Miracle in Pennsylvania
On July 13, Trump was speaking at a rally when gunfire rang out. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired shots that struck Trump’s ear but narrowly missed his skull. Tragically, firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed as he sat in the stands with his family.
Trump, reflecting on that day, said it changed him spiritually.
“Honestly, it changed … something in me,” Trump admitted. “I feel even stronger. I believed in God, but I feel much more strongly about it; something happened.”

Trump Jr. Joins His Father in Renewed Faith
Trump noted that the experience also strengthened the faith of his son, Donald Trump Jr.
“He said, ‘There had to be somebody that saved you, and I think I know who it is,’ and he looked up, and I said, ‘Whoa, Don, you’ve come a long way,’” Trump recalled, sparking laughter in the room.
Divine Protection: God’s Hand Over MAGA
Trump’s miraculous survival at the rally has not gone unnoticed among his supporters and Christian leaders. At the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, just days after the attack, many attendees credited divine intervention for protecting him.
Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who delivered a prayer at Trump’s inauguration, told Breitbart News at the RNC, “We saw the hand of the good Lord protect him.”
Trump’s unwavering faith and gratitude toward God have only grown stronger since that fateful day. Now, as he stands on the national stage once again, he is more determined than ever to lead America forward—guided by faith and purpose.
