Throughout the second impeachment charade, many experts have condemned the left’s decisions. Democrats in the House ignored their own rules and constitutional requirements to impeach Trump. They conducted no investigations, nor did they provide convincing evidence. Despite this, they wanted to condemn Trump by accusing him of “inciting” or encouraging violence.
The effort ultimately failed in the Senate, although seven Republicans turned on the party to vote against Trump. Despite the left’s loss, it established a dangerous, political precedent: whoever’s in power in the House can abuse their majority to impeach someone.
Lindsey Graham was outspoken against the left’s efforts to impeach Trump a second time. Now that it’s over, he is explaining the very thin ice Democrats have skated out onto. He warns that if Republicans retake the House in 2022, there is nothing stopping them from doing the same thing to Kamala Harris.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told “Fox News Sunday” that, under the new standard for impeachment, Vice President Kamala Harris could find herself facing an investigation if Republicans retake the House of Representatives in the 2022 mid-year elections…
“I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached if the Republicans take over the House, because she actually bailed out rioters, and one of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody’s head open,” Graham said. “So we’ve opened Pandora’s box here, and I’m sad for the country.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Graham had made similar warnings in the past, as did Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader. Democrats impeached Trump, claiming he encouraged people to commit violence in D.C. That seems to mean that Democrats want leaders held accountable for how they contributed to events like this throughout the country.
Well, Kamala Harris not only encouraged this sort of behavior, but she went further, spending money to bail out those who looted and rioted over the summer of 2020. Some of those she helped went back to rioting, inflicting harm on innocent victims.
If Democrats can impeach Trump over supposed comments, then what would stop Republicans from impeaching Harris over actual actions she took that led to violence?
Graham previously warned Democrats about the path they took against political speech. They wanted to convict Trump because of what he said during his speech on January 6. Not only does that appear to be a violation of his First Amendment rights, but it would put many other politicians in jeopardy. Most, if not all, politicians use strong language during campaigns and rallies.
Who wouldn’t be vulnerable to impeachment, if Congress can go after their political rivals over speeches?
Democrats failed to put the “nail” in Trump’s political coffin, but opened a Pandora’s box of chaos. They proved that any party can ignore the Constitution to go after its enemies, as long as they have a majority in Congress.
They might live to regret it in just a few short years.
