During the COVID panic, New York was quickly hit the hardest with surging cases and deaths. The matter seemed to be made much worse, thanks to the state’s poor, leftist leadership. While NYC mayor delayed action, the governor forced sick patients into nursing homes. Cuomo is trying to shift the blame to the president, but a new report might be his undoing.
Ah, remember March 2020? I’m sure you’d rather forget that time. But over the course of that month, the media whipped the country up into a frenzy with breathless coverage of COVID-19. State leaders were panicking as cases began to rise. Many feared millions dead and overwhelmed hospitals.
That might explain why entrenched liberals like Gov. Gavin Newsom of CA and Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York were shockingly appreciative of Donald Trump. The president didn’t spare any federal aid to these two states, sending ships, supplies, money, and mobile hospitals.
Oh, how things change in just a few months. Things must be getting better in New York, because Cuomo reverted to the typical leftist talking points against Trump, recently claiming he has done a poor job to address the virus (he didn’t seem to mind all the aid Trump sent back in the Spring). But it looks like Cuomo is trying to distract from his own epic failure.
Now, a new report suggests nursing home deaths—thanks to him—have been are much worse than we thought.
A new report alleges that the true extent of the number of deaths that New York’s nursing homes suffered under the leadership of Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo may be far higher than what has been reported due to the way that the statistics are gathered and counted.
“New York’s coronavirus death toll in nursing homes, already among the highest in the nation, could actually be a significant undercount,” The Associated Press reported. “Unlike every other state with major outbreaks, New York only counts residents who died on nursing home property and not those who were transported to hospitals and died there.” …
“That statistic that could add thousands to the state’s official care home death toll of just over 6,600,” the AP continued. “But so far the administration of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has refused to divulge the number.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Odd that he’d keep the number quiet, right? After all, the liberal media and Democrats have been reporting on the “staggering” number of deaths from COVID, hoping Americans would blame it on Trump. It’s very fashionable, these days, for liberals to fantasize about COVID deaths, thinking it would have an effect on the election.
Yet, according to this report, Cuomo might be trying to hush up any reports that suggest thousands more died in nursing homes. Why? Because at the outset of the lockdowns, the governor ordered nursing homes to take in infected patients. That would have been signing the death certificates of every elderly New Yorker in there.
Cuomo has already tried to deflect from this scandal by blaming Trump. But Trump wasn’t the one forcing sick people into nursing homes. In other states, like Florida, governors prioritized protecting nursing homes. They quickly moved to make sure infected patients weren’t spreading the disease to other residents.
Because, you know, the elderly were the most at risk from dying!
It seems Cuomo doesn’t want to answer for his mistakes. He’d rather have the media obsess about the president than ask him any questions. But something tells me New Yorkers aren’t too happy with his leadership and the leadership of other local leaders.
If I were them, I’d make sure every last one of these Democrats is forced to find a new job.
