DONE PLAYING: After Caravan Rushes U.S. Border, Trump Sends ‘FRAGO’ Measure To Shut It Down

With several migrant caravans crashing into the U.S.-Mexico border in the past month, President Donald Trump has approved a new measure to secure the border.

According to Newsweek, Trump ordered the Department of Defense to send thousands of additional American troops to the southern border over the next two months to help assist border patrol with the migrant crisis.

Defense Department officials reportedly said the White House wants 9,000 to 10,000 more U.S. forces heading to the border over the next few months.

The fragmentary order, or FRAGO, is a collection of documents used by U.S. military planners that add new plans to an existing mission or when there is a change from a previous order.

In this case, there are already around 2,3000 U.S. troops helping border patrol with the migrant crisis.

The new 25-page FRAGO order from the White House is calling for an additional 9,000 to 10,000 U.S. troops to be sent to the southern border to help.

Here’s more from Newsweek on what the White House wants the additional troops to do:

The additional forces would be tasked with helping the Defense Department carry out its mission to assist U.S. Border Patrol officials “with planning, intelligence analysis, detection and monitoring and other support in order to enhance security along the international border,” according to the deployment orders.

Among the “other support,” is the military’s ongoing “mobile surveillance camera operations” at the border, as well as its “wire mission,” which has seen military members laying concertina wire across the southern border since Trump first announced plans to send more than 5,000 active-duty military troops in late October 2018.

The orders also asserted that troops would be expected to “apply the appropriate law enforcement response to secure the southwest border” until the end of their deployment.

Last November, Newsweek first reported that President Trump approved the use of troops for law enforcement tasks at the southwest border without violating the Posse Comitatus Act, the 1878 federal statute that restricts the government’s ability to use the U.S. military as a police force.

The president expanded the authorities of the Defense Department at the border, including, permitting the use of lethal force, according to a White House memo obtained by Newsweek last year.

The memo allowed U.S. service members to perform “military protective activities,” permitting service members to use “a show or use of force (including lethal force, where necessary), crowd control, temporary detention, and cursory search,” as determined by the defense to protect agents with Customs and Border Protection.

It was also reported last week that Trump is considering releasing detained migrants into Democratic-controlled sanctuary cities.

Adding more humor to the entire thing, the White House wants to several of the migrants to be released into Democratic-controlled sanctuary cities — including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco, California.

Last month, Customs and Border Patrol as well as the Department of Homeland Security have been experiencing an unprecedented wave in migration from Central America.

Many Americans would likely support the White House plan to place migrants in Democratic-controlled cities.
