The COVID-19 outbreak has thrown upcoming election events into question. Most notably the Democrat’s summer convention, which some have said might not happen. News is floating around that the DNC might hold a partially “virtual” convention that will allow delegates to attend online. Then their communications director promised they had to have an convention, because of what she said about Biden. Oh boy.
The Democratic primaries were a crap show long before the virus outbreak. Last year, there was over twenty people fighting for the nomination. None of them appeared to have what it took to be president. The debates were long and boring. And no candidate stood out among the rest. Even by early 2020, there were still too many elbowing for attention. It looked as if they would face a brokered convention.
Right before the crisis hit, it appeared the Democrats schemed to give Biden a bump. Fearing Bernie Sanders would take the nom (and lose to Trump) several leading candidates dropped out before Super Tuesday. Meaning their votes would help Biden get the lead. Then the virus shut down our society, preventing further campaign events.
Now the Democrats appear stuck with Joe, a man riddled with scandals and dementia. A recent interview with DNC communications director, though, casts doubt on whether they really intend to back him.
Xochitl Hinojosa, communications director for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), sparked confusion this week after stating during an appearance on Fox News that it is crucial for the party to hold its convention, because they are “not officially nominating Joe Biden in order to take Donald Trump.”
“There’s a real possibility the convention does not happen or it happens in a virtual sense. Is that correct as of today?” Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked.
“First of all, our convention has to happen, because we are not officially nominating Joe Biden in order to take Donald Trump,” Hinojosa replied. “So our convention is happening. There is business that has to happen.” [Source: Breitbart]
Uh… did I read that right? It appears Hinojosa is suggesting the party isn’t fully on board with Joe—or perhaps they don’t intend to nominate him, after all.
You might interpret what she said as they haven’t nominated him, yet. But she said they are “not officially nominating” Joe Biden. She then said there is “business that has to happen.” Woah, kind of ominous, huh? Does this mean the party might do some more voodoo to make someone else the nominee?
Listen, I can’t pretend to be an expert in how the DNC operates. In fact, I don’t think anyone in the DNC is an expert in how they operate. Thanks to super delegates and ever-changing party rules, it’s anyone’s guess at how this nomination process will all shake out. The party has changed rules again and again during the primaries, to edge some candidates out of debates and others in. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they pulled some stunt to pick someone else over Biden.
(Maybe someone like the much-praised Gov. Cuomo?)
It would be pretty easy for them to do that, too, because of the pandemic. Democrats have tried to get away with all kinds of nonsense since the virus hit. Hell, Democrat governors are acting like dictators. Do you really think they wouldn’t just pick someone else? Consider the fact that Joe is facing longstanding allegations about Ukraine and China, the recent dustup over his role in the Flynn case, and this little thing with Tara Reade.
Oh, and the fact that he’s losing his mind!
Do you really think the Democrats, who are so desperate to beat Trump, will roll the dice with Biden?
This week they suffered a huge loss when Republican Mike Garcia flipped a California blue seat red. The first time that’s happened since 1998. Democrats are in panic mode right now. They’ll do anything if they think it will help them oust Trump.
So, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hinojosa just let slip their masterplan: “Anyone But Biden.”
