In the wake of the COVID panic, plenty of blues states resorted to strict, Medieval-style approaches at dealing with the virus. Instead of a more strategic approach to protect the most vulnerable, Democratic governors shut down large sectors of their economy. To this day, many of these states are still in lockdown.
I don’t have to go over the many reasons lockdowns were worse than the disease itself. Countless Americans out of work. Ruined educations. Upended live plans. Not to mention the damage to the medical industry, as so many patients were unable to get needed treatments. (And where is the date that proved lockdowns “slowed the spread”?)
Despite the overwhelming evidence that lockdowns did not work, Democrats continue to push them. In New York, Gov. Cuomo has been pushing lockdowns since Spring of 2020—and the damage is clear.
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers have already moved to open states. The economy is in the toilet. Numerous industries, including restaurant and hospitality, might never come back. Keep in mind New York relies on tourism as a major bringer of income.
Now, the governor is scrambling to reopen the state, as the debt piles up. But will people bother coming back (can they come back)? It’s okay, though. Because Cuomo’s got Chris Rock to save him.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) claims that he will bring back the state’s economy through concerts and performances from high-profile celebrities such as actor-comedians Amy Schumer and Chris Rock, and actor Hugh Jackman.
Governor Cuomo said that New York needs to transition its economy to “the post-COVID world” during his State of the State address on Tuesday, adding “almost no one has been hurt more by COVID than our artists,” and that part of his plan will be to “bring the arts back.”
“We must accelerate the return of the arts,” said Cuomo of his plans to bring back New York City’s economy. “Cities are, by definition, centers of energy, entertainment, theatre, and cuisine. Without that activity and attraction, cities lose much of their appeal.” [Source: Breitbart]
Really, Cuomo? Only now, after nearly a year of lockdowns, do you suddenly realize New York is a center of the arts? Among the industries totally destroyed by his lockdowns were the performing arts. New York City was once a world center for theater—but Broadway hasn’t opened its doors in months.
Cuomo thinks a few shows from comedians like Amy Schumer and Chris Rock will have the people pouring back into the state. But plenty more needs to happen in order for NY to come bouncing back.
They need to ensure the airports and airlines are functioning. The hotel industry needs to be revived. Restaurants that were forced close need to resume operations. And that’s all for starters. Cuomo is talking about reopening the state “safely,” but he hasn’t explained how that will work.
And he’s ignoring the fact that other people need to cooperate for this to happen. We haven’t heard much from New York City’s biggest buffoon, Mayor Bill de Blasio. How is Cuomo going to get this radical idiot on board?
Broadway and comedy shows are fine, but what about movies? Even in open states, the theaters remain closed, as Hollywood refuses to release new features.
It seems like Cuomo has an uphill battle, without clear plans on how to fight. Maybe he shouldn’t have shut down so hard in the first place?
