Perhaps the biggest thing that’s changed (so far) since Donald Trump left office has been the government’s stance on immigration. It’s only been a month, but we are seeing radical changes to how our border is being protected and how the federal government will handle issues like border jumpers, asylum seekers, and refugees.
After his first day in office, Joe Biden ended construction of Trump’s border wall. He halted the “remain in Mexico policy” and put a freeze on ICE deportations. It’s clear that Biden is rolling out the red carpet for illegals, ignoring the massive damage that would do to both Americans and those seeking to enter the country.
Matters have been made much worse with the nomination of Merrick Garland as Attorney General. Garland was once nominated by Obama to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. At the time, it failed, because Republicans refused to vote on it. Now, Garland is back in arguably a bigger role, to lead the Department of Justice.
The leftist has revealed troubling views during his confirmation process. Perhaps the worst has been his stance on illegal immigration.
Biden Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland refused to commit to continuing to prosecute illegal border crossing when pressed on the issue by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) during the first day of confirmation hearings.
“Do you believe that illegal entry at America’s borders should remain a crime?” Hawley asked.
“Well, I haven’t thought about that question,” Garland responded…
“Will you continue to prosecute on unlawful border crossings?” Hawley asked.
“Well, this is again, a question of allocation of resources,” Garland responded. [Source: Daily Wire]
What the hell kind of answer is that? He hasn’t thought about whether entering the country illegally is a crime? The man wants to be the highest law enforcement agent in the country–and he claims he hasn’t thought about a major issue troubling our nation?
When asked about prosecuting illegal crossings, he claims this is about “allocation of resources.” No it’s not, idiot. It’s about making sure American lives aren’t at risk.
When Garland refuses to answer this question, he’s ignoring the major criminal elements that use the border on a regular basis. Drug cartels, human smugglers, and sex traffickers rely on an open border to exploit people and do great harm. Refusing to prosecute illegal aliens isn’t about protecting innocent families who just want a chance in America. It’s looking the other way as the very worst on the planet get away with trading in human lives.
This kind of answer from Garland suggests he’s not even thinking about the welfare of American citizens. He’s not thinking about how crime hurts families and communities. He’s not thinking about the very thing his job as AG entails.
In fact, this proves he might be just a bad AG as Obama’s Holder. Garland might be a radical leftist who will exploit the agency to push a progressive agenda. He will attack big companies, while letting violent criminals go free. Just like the insane AG in California right now, he will reward criminals and hurt law-abiding citizens.
If the Senate has any brains, they’d vote no on this clown.
