Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) — the guy who got honeypotted by a Chinese spy named Fang Fang, sat on the House Intelligence Committee with access to America’s most sensitive secrets, and then spent four years lecturing the rest of us about Donald Trump’s “moral failings” — just resigned from Congress. Effective immediately. Bags packed. Gone.
Nothing says “I’m completely innocent” like cleaning out your desk at warp speed while the Manhattan DA sharpens his pencils. Classic.
Here’s what we know. At least four women have now accused Swalwell of sexual assault. One accuser told CNN — CNN, not some right-wing outlet, but the network that spent years treating this guy like a resistance hero — that Swalwell raped her in 2024 after a prior assault back in 2019. The House Ethics Committee launched a probe. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office opened an investigation. And a fifth accuser is reportedly planning to go public at a press conference in Beverly Hills tomorrow.
Five accusers. Five.
Remember when Democrats told us we had to “believe all women”? Remember when they dragged Brett Kavanaugh through the most humiliating public spectacle in Senate history over one uncorroborated allegation from 36 years ago? Remember Christine Blasey Ford and the tears and the “this is a matter of fundamental human decency”?
Funny how that works. When it’s a Republican, one accusation without evidence is enough to try to destroy a man’s entire life on national television. When it’s a Democrat with FOUR accusers and a criminal investigation? Crickets. Resignation. Move along, nothing to see here.
But the part that should really make your blood boil is what Kevin McCarthy said. McCarthy told reporters that “every member of Congress knows not to let any young staffer around Swalwell.” Every member. Knew. And they all kept their mouths shut.
Think about that for a second. The halls of Congress operated like a whisper network — everybody warning the interns to steer clear of the guy from California — and nobody did a single thing about it. Not the Speaker. Not the Minority Leader. Not the Ethics Committee. Nobody.
(But sure, tell us more about how the Republican Party has a “culture problem.”)
Swalwell didn’t just survive in Washington despite this reputation. He thrived. Democrats put him on the Intelligence Committee. They let him serve as an impeachment manager against President Trump. They trotted him out on MSNBC every other night to pontificate about “threats to democracy” while apparently everyone in the building knew he was a threat to his own staff.
This is the same guy, by the way, who had a romantic relationship with a suspected Chinese intelligence operative. Fang Fang — real name Christine Fang — targeted Swalwell as part of a broad Chinese espionage operation, helped fundraise for his campaigns, and reportedly placed at least one intern in his congressional office. When the FBI briefed congressional leaders about the spy operation in 2015, Swalwell claimed he cut ties. Nancy Pelosi kept him on the Intelligence Committee anyway.
Chinese spy? No problem. Multiple sexual assault allegations? Keep it quiet, he’s useful on TV.
That’s the Democratic Party in 2026. Protect the brand. Protect the narrative. Protect the guy — right up until the moment he becomes a liability, and then act shocked.
Well, the liability just resigned. The Manhattan DA is circling. A fifth accuser is stepping up tomorrow. And every single Democrat who shielded Eric Swalwell for years is about to find out that “we didn’t know” isn’t going to cut it when the subpoenas start flying.
